DJ Supersede Interview

Recorded live at DJcity on The MikiDz Show - Monday, Jan 18, 2010.

MikiWAR: Tell us about your remix team.
Supersede: The remix team is myself and Nick Morrison from Orlando. We do our own originals under Supersede & Nick Morrison but the commercial stuff we do for the labels is under Miami Ski Team.

MikiWAR: Does that ever get confusing?
It does. We're gonna get like 9 pseudonyms, and we're gonna be everywhere all the time!

Rell: How long have you and Nick been doing remixes?
Supersede: We started in '04 but we've been doing it professionally for the labels for like a year.

MikiWAR: Did the remixes or original productions come first?
Supersede: We started DJing first. Nick actually taught me how to DJ. Me and him were DJing together since '02 and he had already been producing for like 15 years. He use to do old school Florida funky breaks on Nightlife Records. Nick had the production background and I brought in the fresh ideas & connections. We found a style that we liked, and now we're grinidin on every remix we can get.

Rell: Where did the name Supersede come from?
Supersede: Funny story. It came from the dictionary--I'm not gonna lie. I was looking for a name that said "I'm way better than you", and the definition of Supersede is: "to take the place of, due to quality".

MikiWAR: What's your favorite remix that you've made?
Supersede: My favorite, that also gets the most club play, is probably the Black Eyed Peas "I Gotta Feeling" one we did. It sticks a lot to the original, but when it gets down into the heaviness we put the Chuckie synth on it and it really rides in the club. That's our big one in the club right now. We just did a progressive "Rise Up" 2010 Remix, so definitely go to DJcity and check out our exclusives.

Rell: Off the subject, but what's this Edward Scissorhands thing you were talking about to Quickie & Phenom?
Supersede: I apparently drink once in a while. Edward Fortyhands is this college party thing where you drive to Georgia and buy 40 ounces and you tape them to your friend's hands. So he's got two 40 ounces taped to his hands and he's not allowed to use the bathroom or take the 40's off of his hands until he finishes them. I've never tried it, but I want to. You can't buy a 40 in Florida--that's why you go drive to Georgia. Do they have 40's in California?

Rell: Where ever there's black people, there's 40's.
