The surge of software and digital media has presented numerous challenges for artists and record labels - namely sales decreases and file sharing. But now, more than ever before, it is easier for an artist to reach out to fans directly. Artists can literally and feasibly come in contact (albeit digitally) with each and every one of their fans; however, in similar fashion, a fan can just as easily come across the artists' music online - and probably not pay a cent for it.
