Dainjazone: So you’ve finally moved to LA, U-Haul truck and all. Did you sell a bunch of stuff back home?
Jayceeoh: Yup. Moved in. I sold everything. Aside from thirty crates of dope records and all my gear, everything else is out the door. All new everything.
MikiWAR: How has the transition been?
Jayceeoh: It’s dope being here because I was born here then moved in the 8th grade. I’ve been coming back sporadically ever since I’ve been traveling and DJing. It’s cool to just be based here instead of just coming in for a week.
MikiWAR: Is there an updated status on the latest Super 7 mix series? We just want to get an inside scoop.
Jayceeoh: You know volume five is in the works. I can’t really drop any bombs on that just yet. Ya’ll have heard the series thus far. Every volume holds it down. Volume five will not let anyone down.
MikiWAR: Let’s talk about your McDonald's Flavor Battle routines. What was the direction they gave you?
Jayceeoh: Three rounds. Three minutes per round. They didn’t give us any criteria until five days before the battle. I emailed this chick, “What’s the format of the battle?!” She was waiting on this and that. Then I get this long list: no cursing, defaming other person characters... I had to battle dudes without battling dudes. Do you think Spinderella sat and read this long list of rules? The judges didn’t read it like that. I kind of played it safe, but I still went at cats.
MikiWAR: Can you break down the process of how you created your routine?
Jayceeoh: Putting this together was kind of weird. I came up doing DMC battles. Then I did the Redbull 3Style, which is completely yin and yang. This was on a commercial platform. I was thinking it would be more of a party rockin’ format. I went in on cuts in my first routine, but I didn’t go as battle heavy as I should have. I had the crowd rockin’. There were crickets for the other dudes. The judges tried to play me on my first round.
We were on this podium in these big a** ridiculous burger boxes. It was like a six-foot tall Big Mac box. The judges were below, so they couldn’t see anything. I went first in each round. After my first round the judges walked up and saw everyone else. Then they said my set was too pre-produced. That’s just because they didn’t see what I was doing. Dudes were talking s**t about me using edits. That’s the name of the game these days. You should get more points for being able to create your own s*** and rock it.
MikiWAR: Sometimes things don’t come out the way you want them to. Were there any moments...
Jayceeoh: I feel like I kind of nailed my sets. The one time I was kind of off was when I did this “Push It” juggle. There was a lot of body tricks and technical stuff. Compared to what others were doing, it was just way more technical. This dude in the first round had this whole routine of “put your hand in the air” for six minutes...
Dainjazone: In a three minute battle... for six minutes (room laughs).
Jayceeoh: Exactly! I was like, “Yo! Who the f*** is keeping track of time (room laughs)?!
